Hello and welcome to Big Red Couch Web Design!
The fact that you are here reading suggests that you are fed up! Maybe you have tried to build a decent website on your own and run down dozens of dead end streets. Perhaps you are nervous about being held hostage by a webmaster because you don't know enough about programming to do it youself.
Either way, You have had enough!
I don't blame you. In fact, I have felt the EXACT same way. Some years ago I was in the real estate industry and knew that a website would really help my business. The impression that I had was that all I had to do was open up Dreamweaver, move some images around and PRESTO, instant website, instant success.
My first website was a pure disaster!
After spending 30 hours over 2 days I had little more than a huge headache. The whole experience was maddening. And the results-- well, it looked like crap! I was almost embarrassed. There was no way anyone I knew was going to see that garbage. And using it for business... fuggetaboutit!
Oddly, I found that I loved working with computers a lot more that I liked real estate. But that's another story.
The whole idea of using a "webmaster" was really unappealing as well. First, I didn't like the idea of having to wait for someone else to do something. Second, and this is a big one for most people, I HATED the idea of not being in control of my own stuff. There are countless stories of website owners not being able to make changes and updates to their sites. Most often I hear "My webmaster kinda disappeared."
Those website owners that do have reliable webmasters still have several challenges to deal with. Really good webmasters have a full client load which means you may wait days or even weeks for simple content changes. Also, webmasters charge anywhere between $60 and $150 per HOUR!
Another frequent challenge with webmasters is the language barrier. And I'm not talking about English here. Webmasters, web designers, programmers and coders often use what I call "Geek-Speak". It is a language all their own. Quite often they fail to realize that the general public hasn't got a clue what they are saying. For an example, just imagine for a second sending an email to your webmaster to ask to have your website visitors go to your sales page first instead your home page. A day or two later you get back an email from your webmaster asking if you want a 301 or 302 redirect in your .htaccess file!
Add to that the confusion of trying to figure out how to set up a domain, setting up an email addresses, deciding which hosting package you really need, how much storage space, how much band-width and on and on.
Again, I know where you are coming from. And you know what? It doesn't have to be that way.
Here at Big Red Couch Web Design we take great pride in helping you succeed with your website project. We also get a charge out of being able to give you complete control of your website.
